Red Alert! What I Observed on the Streets of NYC

It's hard to find signs of spring when a blizzard hit just last week. Yet, even in a sea of black and gray, certain pops of color always seem to stand out.
When I went out to the New York City streets with the intention of looking for trends, pops of red caught my eye.
Accessories are the quickest and easiest way to transform a look. From hats to scarves to backpacks, New Yorkers flashed their true red colors.

It's no secret that color is on a come back. In previous posts, I expressed that I was sick of neutral colored bloggers, discovered newfound brightness in Free People, and researched and predicted vibrant, new color stories using trend forecasting websites.
Now, it's clear to see that these theories prove to be true as consumers are slowly but surely reopening up to color. After observing this, I did notice that red seemed to be the most prominent color, in both accessories and apparel.
In addition to accessories, outerwear is another way to zest up outfits without completely revamping your closet.

By fusing color in with accessories and outerwear, color will gradually make it's way back to apparel.
As featured to the right, I liked this woman's combination of the bright red along with the bigger bell sleeve. Although she does not look like the most fashion forward individual, it just goes to show that 1) innovative and trendy styles will eventually hit the mass market, or if this was a garment that she's owned for some time, 2) fashion is evolutionary.
Maybe red is only widespread as we are just off the cusp of an election year. Even so, designers used New York Fashion Week to make political statements, such as this parody on Trump's iconic "Make America Great Again" baseball cap.

Whether or not red is on the rise to trending, it is and always will be a classic, staple color. It's ability to be both versatile and striking keeps it fresh with infinite opportunites.
